AOS 93 Coordinated School Health Program
CSHP Mission: To effectively address students’ health, thus improving their ability to learn.
PROGRAM ACCOMPLISHMENTS

School Union #74 (now known as AOS 93 with the addition of Jefferson Village School) and Lincoln Academy have been fortunate to have a CSHP in their schools since 2002.  This program has proven to be successful, as is evidenced by some of the following accomplishments:

• All schools have adopted a Partnership for a Tobacco Free Maine Tobacco Free School    Policy
• School lunches are lower in sugar and fat and are offering more whole grain foods
• Union #74 adopted and implemented a Comprehensive Health Education Curriculum
• Partnered with the CLC YMCA to offer employees a 15% discount on membership
• Recognized staff annually during Staff Appreciation Week
• Purchased fitness related equipment for schools, including snow shoes, rollerblades,  Physical Education equipment, and Outing Club supplies
• Offered funding for Physical Activities that encourage lifetime fitness, such as swimming lessons, self defense, and dance
• Developed and introduced required Wellness Policies to all school boards in 2006
• Promoted local agriculture and increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables by partnering with FARMS (Focus on Agriculture in Rural Maine Schools)
• Offered professional development opportunities for staff in relation to nutrition, bullying, active -based learning, health education, life-skills training, cooking healthy, tobacco cessation, and substance-abuse prevention
• Held a union wide Wellness Fair for grades K-2 to promote physical activity, dental health, nutrition, and personal hygiene
• Participated in MYDAUS/YTS (survey for youth tobacco and substance use and abuse)
