CSHP Mission: To effectively address students’ health, thus improving their ability to learn.
The AOS 93 Coordinated School Health Program is part of the local Healthy Maine Partnership, Healthy Lincoln County (HLC). Healthy Lincoln County is located in Newcastle, Maine and is part of a statewide network of partnerships that work within the state of Maine to promote health and wellness. These programs have many partners including the Department of Health and Human Services, the Maine Department of Education, The Partnership for a Tobacco - Free Maine and The Office of Substance Abuse.
Each year, both HLC and the CSHP are required to plan objectives to focus their prevention and health promotion efforts on. The initial health initiatives that were required primarily focused on Tobacco, Nutrition and Physical activity, but now they also include Chronic Disease, such as Asthma and Diabetes, as well as Substance Abuse Prevention. HLC has an excellent staff that works towards meeting these objectives, often partnering with the School Health Coordinator (SHC) on school based efforts. The SHC is also part of the Tobacco Committee and CASA (Communities Against Substance Abuse), as well as on the Health Advisory Council at HLC.
